I’ve had a slow start to 2025, and January ended up being a lot busier than expected. Both work and personal obligations consumed my time this past month and left me without much time or energy for much else. Things are finally starting to settle down a bit and I should have more time available to spend on hobbies and writing.
Meshtastic
I received a LilyGo LoRa T3 S3 development board for Christmas. This is my first venture into any sort of radio device and I’m primarily interested to see what it is capable of. To start, I have flashed the Meshtastic firmware onto the board, and I have been experimenting with the client tools to see how it works as a local federated network. So far I have been able to discover five other nodes within the range of my device. I think I’m going to see if I can acquire another device or two and see what if I can build a small radio network at home to exchange messages back and forth. It looks like these devices consume a lot less power than a typical WiFi radio, so I’m interested if I can leverage them to build a low power IoT network.
Digital Garden
I’ve been meaning to start a digital garden for some time now. I’ve been holding off with the intent of creating a fancy page template for my articles, but that is going much slower than expected due to my lack of knowledge around Haskell and the Heist templating library used by Emanote. Rather than continue to let that hold me up, I’m going to start writing articles and I’ll update the template once I figure out how Heist works.
