This is quick thought to start out the new year. Since I really don’t do weekly posts any longer, I’ve shortened the title from “Weekly Journal” to just “Journal”.
AI Platform Decay
I’m wondering what happens when people and businesses integrate these AI models into their daily work, and then the AI providers decide to intentionally decay their platforms in the name of increased revenue. Right now, AI usage is heavily subsidized by investors in an attempt to capture market share. Once they get enough users locked-in to their platform, I fully expect the providers to sharply increase their prices.
I think these AI models are interesting and have some good use cases, but I’m leery of becoming too dependent on them and getting hit with huge bills when they decide to capture all the market value for themselves.
