Red Hat and the Clone Wars VI: Obfuscating Kernel Code for Fun and Profit

Another entry in Joe Brockmeier’s history of Red Hat and its various clone distributions. This time the focus is on actions took back in 2011 to make it more difficult for clone competitors to copy their work and provide paid support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Incidentally, I really don’t get people who are holding up Oracle as some sort of paragon of open source virtue. Anybody who knows the history of Oracle and Linux knows they have been anything but good citizens of the open source community, as this post further shows. Attempts to paint Oracle as a champion of open source against the evils of Red Hat is either ignorant or intellectually dishonest in my opinion.
